Dog-friendly breweries in Charleston
Breweries are some of the easiest places to bring a dog in Charleston, but policies differ: most allow dogs outside only, and at least one big name doesn’t allow them at all.
Confirmed on the brewery’s own website
- Hobcaw Brewing (Mt Pleasant): “Leashed dogs are welcome in our outdoor spaces and in the warehouse.” (source)
- Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co. (Charleston): dogs welcome outside; not allowed inside because it’s a full-service restaurant. (source)
- Frothy Beard (West Ashley): “We allow leashed dogs on our patio.” (source)
- Freehouse Brewery (N. Charleston): lists a “Dog-Friendly Beer Garden.” (source)
Heads up: not dog-friendly
Holy City Brewing (N. Charleston) is listed as dog-friendly on several third-party sites, but its own FAQ says: “Service animals are the only permitted animals on property.” (source, checked 2026-10-15)
Why “service animals only”? Businesses set their own pet policies, but the ADA generally requires them to admit service dogs. See Service dogs vs. pets: ADA basics.

Tips
- Expect dogs to be allowed on patios and in beer gardens, not indoors, unless the brewery says otherwise.
- Bring water on hot days and keep your dog leashed. Local leash laws apply on patios too.
Leash laws to know
- City of Charleston: leash 8 ft max except in posted off-leash areas (City Code § 5-4).
- Mount Pleasant: leashed everywhere in town outside designated dog parks; dogs over 6 months must wear a rabies tag (Town Code ch. 90, Leash Up MTP).
- County parks: 6 ft leash except inside designated off-leash dog parks (CCPRC Rules, Section 8).
Rules change. Check posted signs and the official source before you go. Unverified = listed by a third party but not yet confirmed with the business; call ahead.
